You missed an opportunity here. Instead of patronizing her, they should just straight up compliment her and say she actually looks very cute like this, and then she would say “really?” while vigorously wagging her tail, and then when she realizes what she’s doing, she would get extremely embarrassed. That would be funny and better for the character images. Teasing someone in some minor embarrassing situation may be reasonable up to a point, but there’s a certain point, where “teasing” them over something sufficiently drastic just detracts from what I think of them as a character.
